Dear Grant County Historical Society Member and Friends,
As America has begun to celebrate its 250th anniversary, we at the Grant County Historical Society have also made it our mission this year to make history an important part of living in Grant County Wisconsin. It has been with your past support and now, with your continuing support, that we will be able to do so. As you know, we are an all-volunteer organization with no federal or state financial support. It is only through the generosity of members and donors, like you, that we are able to collect and preserve artifacts in which to provide interesting and educational exhibits and events for all visitors.
In addition to the Annual Meeting, which was held in January, and the Antique Quilt Show, which we just held, we have other events and projects in store for this year. Sonny Days will again be held the week of April 20th with special activities on Saturday, April 25. Fundraising will begin vigorously in May for our Lower Level project which will add an elevator, making it handicap accessible, adding heat and AC, making it more comfortable, and adding hands-on exhibit spaces, making it a historic experience. Detailed plans of the entire project which have been made by Delta 3 Engineering from Platteville can be seen at the Grant County History Museum in Lancaster. A fundraising event that has been planned is a High Tea at the Burg Mansion in Platteville on Friday, May 8, 2026. What a fun Mother’s Day gift that could be! In addition to grant writing, we have developed a Business and/or Family Sponsorship Program that we hope you consider taking advantage of. Any help you can give us in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated.
Continuing with the America 250 celebration, special events are also being planned for Constitution Week in September at the Mitchell-Rountree Stone Cottage in Platteville, which is also a part of the Grant County Historical Society.
Many members have already renewed their annual membership in the Grant County Historical Society for this year which runs from January through December. If you haven’t and wish to do so, you can pay by check or you can use PayPal online at grantcountyhistory.org. We, the museum Board of Directors and communities we serve, truly appreciate your willingness to participate as together we continue to keep the history of Grant County alive in the hearts and minds of all those around us.
Sincerely,
Linda Lucke

Grant County Historical SocietyThe mission of the Grant County Historical Society is to enrich lives by collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of Grant County Wisconsin.  Since 1935, the Grant County Historical Society has been sharing Grant County history through museum exhibits, local history presentations, and events.

Our exhibits relate to geology, mining, military, sports, local artifacts and the Pleasant Ridge Community.  We collaborate with the Grant County Genealogical Society and the Grant County Research Center which is available to the public for family and county history research.  We have a large collection of archival material and photos available for use in schools, by genealogists, historians, and history buffs.

We can’t do any of this without the many volunteers who step up to work in the Museum, Research Center, Stone Cottage and on our Historical Society Committees, if you would like to become a volunteer, please let us know; stop in, 129 E Maple St Lancaster or phone (608)-558-0271, email historicalsociety@tds.net.

Your support is deeply appreciated, either by making a monetary donation, becoming a member or both, it will help us continue to tell the history of Grant County, a story we promise to share for generations to come. Please download, print, and fill out the Annual Appeal Form to accompany your donation. We also welcome PayPal donations through our Grant County Historical Society website.

Thank you,
