The Mitchell-Rountree Stone Cottage is hosting a community celebration in honor of Laura J Rountree, the woman who saved the oldest home in Platteville. The Mitchell- Rountree Stone Cottage was built in 1837 by Revolutionary War veteran Samuel Mitchell, the great-grandfather of Laura J Rountree. We are celebrating Laura’s 152nd birthday with cake and ice cream, yard games, and community spirit. The celebration will be held from 1:00-4:00pm on Saturday September 10th. The Cottage, located on 2.5 acres of parkland at 460 W Madison St (at the corner with Lancaster Rd), will be open for tours from 10-4.
