On the grounds surrounding the cottage are vintage plantings. At the front of the cottage are flowers planted along the wooden fence. This beds are resplendent in flowers that would have grown in the gardens during the days of occupancy by the Mitchell and Rountree families. At the rear of the cottage is the vegetable garden called "Three Sisters" because of the corn, beans, and squash planted together. The Bunny Cottontail Garden made to appeal to young rabbits and children alike is pictured at the left. The Bunny Cottontail Garden is inspired by the series of Bunny Cottontail books written by Laura Rountree Smith.
